our history

Our story began nearly forty years ago…

The ‘Huntingdonshire Writers’ group was initiated by Alan Cross in June 1985. Alan had been awarded first prize in a writing competition organised by Jeffrey Archer.  Another founding member, Annette Piper, won third prize in the same competition.

The first meeting was held at Huntingdon Technical College. Eventually the group moved from the college to various venues around the district of Huntingdon.

A magazine called ‘Inkpot’ emerged as a means of featuring articles written by members. The earliest surviving copy is dated 1995. Historical records of the group, including minute books, are lodged in the archives at Huntingdon Library.

Many of our members have had stories, poems, novels and memoirs published in magazines, on Amazon and on other platforms worldwide.

Remembering Margaret Faulkner by David Seaton

Margaret Faulkner, one of the founding members of our group, sadly passed away in late 2024. David Seaton has penned a moving tribute to Margaret. Click on the button below to read the tribute. The photo on the right shows Margaret standing fourth from the left, next to David
