About us

A friendly group for local writers

Our purpose is to nurture the talents of all our members. Whether you are new to writing or a published author, you will receive a warm welcome. We cover fiction, non-fiction, poetry and memoirs, so there is bound to be something to interest you.

We meet on the first Tuesday of every month. At each meeting we set competitions, announce results, read our work, take part in on-the-spot writing challenges and provide feedback. We also make friends and eat cake. Lots and lots of cake.

Why join us?

Everyone is Welcome

Whether you aspire to publication or are happy to write for your own pleasure and for family and friends, you’ll fit right in at Hunts Writers. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and have diverse writing experiences. Everyone in the group is committed to helping each other improve. Here’s how we do this:

Competitions

Short story, poetry and mini saga competitions, judged by other writers’ groups.

Workshops

Topics include: show not tell, creating tension, writing memoirs and developing credible characters and plots.

challenges

Real-time writing challenges designed to develop your writing skills and enable you to help others do the same.

show and tell

At every meeting, writers read extracts from their current work and receive constructive feedback from the group.
